Restaurant Weeks in Washington County; Fifth Annual Event Set for August 5-18
Hagerstown. MD - The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the Fifth Annual Hagerstown Restaurant Weeks featuring fourteen participating restaurants throughout the county and region.
The two weeks this year are scheduled for August 5-18. The independent restaurants are offering special meals at special prices as part of this annual event.
Restaurant Weeks offers diners the opportunity to try a new place, enjoy a sought-after specialty restaurant, or revisit their favorite dining establishment. A variety of restaurants are participating; some with cutting edge fine cuisine, a few local eateries, and several well-established favorites.
Participating restaurants include: Aqua 103, Barefoot Bernie’s, Black-Eyed Susan, Bonnies at the Red Byrd, Bulls and Bears, Captain Benders, Georgia Boy Café at Park Circle, Hard Times, Hempen Hill BBQ, LJ’s and the Kat Lounge, Nick’s Airport Inn, Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant, Schula’s Grill and Crab House, and The Gourmet Goat and GG’s Restaurant.
“All the participating restaurants are excited to welcome back old friends and introduce new ones to our restaurants,” said Steve Cook, co-owner of The Gourmet Goat and GG’s Restaurant. “Washington County’s independent restaurants offer a very personalized, high quality dining experience at a good value.”
The original idea for Hagerstown Restaurant Weeks came from the Convention and Visitors Bureau having a meeting with several local restaurants a few years ago, and the CVB helped organize a committee to plan the annual events. “Several other communities across the country offer annual Restaurant Weeks, and we decided that because Washington County enjoyed the last four years’ events so much, we should hold a 5th! Our county has several high-quality restaurants that are locally-owned, we believe that this a great way to showcase our local dining opportunities,” said Tom Riford the President and CEO of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Mid-August is usually a slower time for local restaurants, because of vacation, travel, and other activities. Restaurant Weeks aims to provide tasty relief with special pricing and offers to make the event an attractive opportunity for visitors and residents alike. Local restaurants are offering a sampling of three course meals at three attractive price points, $15.12, $20.12, $30.12. All Restaurant Weeks features are offered in addition to the regular menu and do not include beverage, tax, or gratuity. Some restaurants are offering additional special values and pricing.
“We are excited to participate in Hagerstown’s Fifth Annual Restaurant Weeks,” said proprietor of Hempen Hill BBQ, Kathy Reeder. “Our chef has put together some fun food packages just for the event that are bound to please! Hempen Hill BBQ expects great things from this year’s event and looks forward to many more years to come.”
This year’s event includes fourteen select restaurants. “These restaurant owners are part of the community and are at the restaurant working and welcoming their guests,” said Paul Deputy, of GG’s and the Gourmet Goat. “They are passionate about taking care of them and offering them amazing food and service.” Deputy looks forward to welcoming new visitors to the community, “We want people to come and discover the real restaurants of Hagerstown!”
While Restaurant Weeks encourages people in the area to dine at local establishments, organizers also hope that the event entices visitors to the area. Many hotels in Washington County are offering special pricing to encourage visitors to take part in this special event, and to stay in the area. The CVB is advertising the event in regional and statewide media.
Paul Giannaris of Nick’s Airport Inn said, “There are many great restaurants in this area. We want to welcome people to enjoy some great fine dining opportunities here. We are very pleased to again be part of this terrific annual event!”

Diners are urged to please check on the participating restaurants’ days and hours of operation.
“This is a unique time when restaurants have volunteered to offer special meal pricing, in the spirit of cooperation in welcoming people to locally-owned fine dining establishments,” said committee co-chair Paul Deputy. “Reservations are recommended, and each individual restaurant has planned an inviting menu choice at this special pricing. Make sure you call ahead to ensure the establishment’s Restaurant Weeks participation, scheduling, and offer.”
Hotels (and a campground) offering special packages include: Best Western Grand Venice Hotel, Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, Hampton Inn-Maugansville, Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites, Hotel Express, Ramada Plaza Hotel, Sleep Inn and Suites, Sleep Inn and Suites-Clear Spring, and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park.
