Delegates Request an Accounting of Dozens of “No-Named” Accounts in the Proposed Budget Bill

Charleston, WV - A group of eight delegates requested key budget information from the House Finance Chairman today for this year‘s Budget Bill.
In addition to “No-Named” Accounts, these Delegates want an accounting of all the extra money in each government agency, a complete total of all funds spent, and a chart showing the growth in the state budget over the last ten years
In a letter written to the Chairman, Delegate Harry Keith White, the delegates requested:
- A line-by-line accounting of dozens of “No-Named” Accounts
- An accounting of all the extra money in each government agency.
- A complete total of all funds spent in the Budget Bill.
- A chart showing the growth in the state budget over the last ten years.
“This is key information is important for us to make an informed decision about how we are spending taxpayer money this year,” said Delegate Daryl Cowles (R-Morgan), the delegate spearheading this effort.
“These ‘No-Named’ Accounts total over $1 billion of our state budget. In these tough economic times, it is crucial we account for every dollar being spent in these ‘No-Named’ Accounts,” said Delegate Jonathan Miller (R-Berkeley). Delegate Cowles added, “We also need an accounting of all the extra money in each government agency. Every year, unspent money is carried over to the next budget year. If those agencies aren’t using that extra money, we need to know.”
“We also want to know how big this budget is going to be. That’s why we need a total of all the funds spent,” stated Miller. “And we want to see the growth of spending over the last 10 years. To know where were at, we need to know how we got here.”
Delegate Daryl Cowles concluded, “We are looking forward to receiving this information in a timely fashion from the Finance Chairman. Our taxpayers always expect us to spend their money wisely, but they especially expect us to do this during tough economic times like now.”
“Government needs to tighten it’s belt, just as West Virginia families are. Getting this information will allow us to find effective ways to tighten our belt. We must do this because our constituents are demanding this of us.”
Delegates Cowles, Jonathan Miller, Carol Miller, Blair, McGeehan, Shott, Sobonya, and Lane all signed the letter requesting this information from the House Finance Chairman.
