Under new EPA rules that went into effect on April 22, 2010, ANY contractor performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to minimize occupants’ exposure to lead hazards.

All individuals performing activities that disturb painted surfaces must be certified renovators or have been trained by a certified renovator. A certified renovator must also be assigned to each renovation and perform all of the EPA-mandated responsibilities of a certified renovator.
Fines for non-compliance are anticipated to be $37,500 per day, per occurrence.

According to a recent EPA memo, contractors who have enrolled in Certified Renovators training with an EPA approved training provider by September 30 will not face enforcement, as long as the training is completed by December 30.

This one-day class will give you the EPA-mandated training needed for you and/or your employees to become Certified Renovators and comply with this new federal law.

Martinsburg, WV - Bike Night 2010 is set to roll into downtown tomorrow night. This is the 8th year for the event has taken place and will benefit Hospice of the Panhandle and the revitalization of downtown through Main Street Martinsburg. A non-profit organization, mission is to enhance and promote the downtown district. The event is co- sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg and the West Virginia Blue Knights Chapter Five.

Ride information: The bike ride registration starts at 1pm to 4pm at the Berkeley Plaza parking lot, Route 11 North. Ride registration cost is $20.00 per bike. You will also receive a Bike Night 2010 pin.

• Downtown Festivals: Downtown will start at 5:00pm with the arrival of bikes, leading the pack will be Erik Estrada.  Downtown Restaurants and Businesses will open for special discounts and menu’s. Also outside food vendors, ice cream, Beer garden, bike apparel, bike novelties, motorcycle clubs, non-profits and merchandise. Live music by “Surreal” a popular band will perform.
