Helmet Liners for Our Troops Knit-In

Area knitters will be offering support for our military troops on Super Bowl Sunday (2/7/2010) by participating in the 2010 Love A Soldier - Knit a Helmet Liner Event, sponsored by Pocket Meadow Farm Fiber Arts. The Knit-In will be held at co-sponsor Earth Dog Cafe in Berkeley Springs, WV from 4:30 to 7:30PM.
Participants will receive a free pattern and can either purchase yarn (at wholesale cost) at the event, or bring their own 100% wool yarn. The pattern calls for sizes 6 and 7 circular and double pointed needles. There is no fee to participate. Anyone with basic knitting skills is encouraged to attend.
Pocket Meadow Farm’s goal is to donate 100 completed Helmet Liners during the month of February. This local event is part of a nation-wide effort and is being held in conjunction with Operation Helmetliner, Citizen Sam (http://www.citizensam.org/), which has to date received and distributed over eighty two thousand hand knit helmet liners, and offers the following guidelines:
Due to military regulations, acceptible colors are: black, brown, charcoal, olive drab and tan. Only 100% soft wool yarn will be accepted, because our Armed Forces are not allowed to wear synthetic fibers. Wool is inherently non-flammable and won’t melt against the skin in the event of an accident and will stay warm even when wet.
