Shepherdstown, WV -- Kids are invited to experience dance fun this July at the Eighth Annual Goose Route Dance Festival. Three shows and four dance classes will take place between July 10-20 at the War Memorial Building, 102 East German Street, Shepherdstown; the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library; and the Shepherdstown Day Care Center. On Thursday, July 10 at 1:30 pm, Megan Mazarick and Company from Philadelphia, PA, teach “Green Dancing” at the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library. Megan and her company will celebrate our natural environment and find ways to bring about positive environmental change through dynamic dance discoveries. On Saturday, July 10 at 9:30 am, Megan teaches a Contact Improvisation class for kids ages 8-14, during which adventurous guys and gals can experiment with new ways of moving with a partner and a group. On Thursday, July 17 at 10:00 am, Cara Hagan from Winston-Salem, NC, teaches an outreach class at the Shepherdstown Day Care Center for children enrolled at the Center. On Saturday, July 19, from 9:30-10:15 am, dance partners Erika Randall, from Boulder, CO, and Anna Sapozhnikov, from Chicago, IL, teach “Big Moves for Little People,” a fun and creative romp for boys and girls ages 4-7.

Shows for children and their parents take place at the War Memorial Building on Friday, July 11 at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 15 at 10:30 am, and Friday, July 18 at 10:30 am. The Friday morning shows are open dress rehearsals during which kids are invited to play the dance scavenger hunt to search for special moves, and parents can rest easy knowing that fidgeting is allowed. The Tuesday morning performance, sponsored by the Shepherdstown Public Library Children’s Department, is entitled Bodyworks: Experiments in Dance. This free show will feature performances by Heather Ahern, from Morgantown, WV, and by Goose Route dancers Colleen Tracey, Ray Shaw, and Kitty Clark. It will also include participatory experiences for audience members.
