MARTINSBURG, WV — The Arts Centre will feature the sculpture of Dow Benedict from April 11 – May 23. Titled “Dream House Revisited,” this exhibit examines preconceptions about the concept of house and home. Mr. Benedict's work explores the form and concept of the house, and the relationship between human ideals and the reality of our physical environment. Working in assemblage, a sculptural method developed by dada and pop artists in the 20th century, Mr. benedict turns found objects, discarded wood, and detritus into works of art.

Visitors are invited to participate in the exhibit by creating their own small dream house. The house template is available on the invitation to the exhibit, and also on The Arts Centre’s website. The template is designed to be assembled and decorated, and to house a can of food. Food donations brought to The Arts Centre will be donated to Loaves and Fishes. Finished houses will be put on display for the duration of the exhibit.

An opening reception for “Dream House Revisited” will be held on Friday, April 11 from 5-8 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. Thanks to Hagerstown Bookbinding and Printing for their sponsorship of this exhibit.
